White gesso and thunderstorms

Today I am working in my home studio for a deadline that is approaching and to tell the truth, if I didn't have the deadline, I wouldn't paint today.  I think I would curl up on the couch with a good book or just play with collage or something, instead of finishing these paintings that I started about a month ago. In the course of things, our son came home for Springbreak, I had a bout with flu...you know the drill.
At this point, the energy I felt for these 3 beauties is a month back.  I had to get it back somehow, and since it so dark here today, my natural instinct is to add contrast and light.  Being a child of the moon I went straight for the white gesso.  This is what I love about acrylics...they fit my impulsive nature by the forgiving nature of the paint, especially Chroma Interactives.
Pictured is the result and I think from viewing "my 3 prickly pears" that the two on the right are finished, but for very small corrections.  The one on the left is my project for the day, and it may be quite different at the end of the day because I have the urge to get in there with a mural brush and really mix it up.
Happy painting to all!

  1. PS-These are 30 x 30 x 1.25". I have loved painting on a bit larger format, but since I paint in layers the process has taken longer.

  2. Hi Marilyn,
Oops, I didn't see you had replied to my comment. I live in Australia, Victoria and I went on holidays to the South Coast, New South Wales. Very balmy and lots of beaches.
Your paintings of the prickly pear are looking fantastic.
    Yeah, I love acrylics.
    Happy Painting,
    Hugs,
    Anna
