When the deadline is away the muse will play!

Have you ever gone into your studio to finish a large project which has to be completed and found yourself drawn to other smaller projects:  pulled away from product to process...

I recently viewed an interview by Bill Moyers on PBS with Louise Erdrich, one of my favorite authors.  She spoke of the need to be in her writer's room with her notebooks, scraps, scribblings, pencil nubs, etc...more as a place to play and allow than to produce "things".  When I found out this AM that one of my deadlines had been extended, I first felt scattered, like a child who gets to go out to recess on a whimsy.  Slowly, I began to circle around unfinished parts and pieces...to take time to see what surrounded me. And here I've been all day.

Pictured are two of the images I completed.
These are 5 x 7" oils on gesso board.

  1. Hi Marilyn,
Oh yeah, I get an idea and start on it straight away. Hm, no wonder I have between three and six paintings on the go at once. lol
Well done on your latest Oil paintings.
    Happy Painting,

  4. Thanks Sally-I had been painting with mural brushes and acrylics, so I had fun with my little oil brush on these 5 x 7" gesso boards. They seemed so...easy, after painting on 30x 30" canvases! Still I did spend 2.5 hours working on them, which seemed like 5 minutes.
