"Poet Tree" progression

Today is one of those wonderful painting days when I am excited to wake up, and can't wait to get into the studio!
After gessoing 3, 24 x 24" canvases, roughing in a "sketch", applying an isolation layer, and allowing the surface to "cure" it was time to apply paint!

I began with a tint of blue and, at first, was very controlled.  But, as I painted, I moved to a larger brush and switched to right brain, laying in strokes of blue with varying tints, allowing the orange back gesso to show through the blue, using various yellows to tone the image.
To me there is nothing like the feeling that results when the image takes on a life of it's own. I think of it as catching a wave of energy of some sort.
When it happens it is a mental space where time doesn't exist, and the artist has confidence in every stroke!

Here's to catching the wave!

  3. Thanks to you both for your kind comments.
I think not knowing quite where we are going is part of the artistic process, at least for me.
    Happy painting!
